A passenger touring on a Carnival cruise ship has died whereas on an expedition in Vanuatu, an island nation within the South Pacific Ocean

The passenger died whereas snorkeling on Thriller Island, an uninhabited islet in Vanuatu, in line with a report by the native information outlet 7News, citing a passenger on board. The Australian passenger was not recognized within the report. 

“Carnival Cruise Line is deeply saddened by the dying of a visitor on Thriller Island, following what seems to be a medical scenario whereas swimming,” Carnival Australia mentioned in an announcement, per the report, including that the cruise line is “supporting the visitor’s household together with different friends throughout this tough time.”

The passenger was touring on the Carnival Splendor cruise ship, which was scheduled for a nine-day sail within the Pacific Ocean. The cruise departed Sydney on Could 15. 

5 days into the cruise, the passenger died, Carnival Australia advised 7News. The cruise returned to Sydney on Tuesday.

The following Carnival Splendor is scheduled to start on Could 28, in line with Cruise Hive. The 12-night sail within the Pacific Ocean visits islands in New Caledonia and Vanuatu. The sail’s itinerary additionally notes a cease at Thriller Island. 

In recent times, a number of cruise passengers have died whereas snorkeling throughout island expeditions. In September, an American passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise was killed after being attacked by a bull shark whereas snorkeling within the Bahamas.
