Ethiopia’s Prince Joel has launched an announcement questioning Buckingham Palace’s refusal to launch the stays of his ancestor who was buried within the UK. 

Officers on the palace declined a request to launch the stays of Prince Alemayehu, who was born in 1861 to Tewodros II, Emperor of Abyssinia (now Ethiopia), Insider reported on Tuesday.

Alemayehu was taken to the UK as an orphan on the age of seven by British troopers following the battle of Maqdala. The prince died from pleurisy on the age of 18 and was buried at St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Fort, a 900-year-old residence that is occupied by the British royal household.

In an announcement shared with Insider, a spokesperson for the palace stated “it is rather unlikely that it could be doable to exhume the stays with out disturbing the resting place of a considerable variety of others within the neighborhood.”

“It is unlucky that Buckingham Palace has but once more denied the request to return the stays of our royal ancestor,” Joel stated in an announcement shared with Insider.
