Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom for African People. 

The primary Juneteenth was celebrated on June 19, 1865, after Union troopers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and knowledgeable the enslaved African People they had been free. Though enslaved African People had been freed underneath the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the chief order wasn’t acknowledged in elements of the Accomplice South and lots of slaveholders fled deeper south. 

Now, 157 years later, African People throughout the nation rejoice with potlucks, cookouts, household meals, and neighborhood gatherings that foster neighborhood.
